WTVM Weather Visit

Yesterday, third graders at PCES had a very special treat.  The meterologist, Derek Kinkade, from WTVM in Columbus, came and shared information about his job, weather, and how to stay safe.  Students enjoyed seeing some behind the scenes photos of how a news broadcast is put together, as well as some awesome photos of lightning, tornadoes, and super storms.

After his presentation, students were given time to ask some of their own questions about weather and the news.

A big thank you to Derek Kinkade and WTVM!

To see the clip of the kids that aired on the 6:00 news, click here, and scroll through the video clips that are in the top right corner to find the one of PCES kids.  Derek also shared it on his facebook page.

Upcoming Field Trip

The third grade will be taking a field trip on Friday, November 8 to President Roosevelt's Little White House in Warm Springs, Georgia.  This is a great opportunity for your student to see a piece of history, and is a culmination of our unit studying landmarks and monuments.

The cost of the trip is $8 and we will be gone from approximately 9 am - 2:30 p.m.  Permission forms have gone home, and forms AND money are due back by Thursday, October 31, 2013.

Please let me know if you have any questions, and we are very excited about this trip!

Life Cycle Dioramas

The past several weeks we have been studying plant and animal life cycles in Science.  Students were given the opportunity to complete a project at home for bonus points - a shoebox diorama of a life cycle of their choice.

The students outdid themselves!  These are some of the best submissions for this project that I have had in years.  It is obvious we have some very talented third graders!

Friday was our school's annual Fall Festival, and despite the none-fall temperatures (it was HOT!), we still had a fabulous time!

A special thanks to all our parents who volunteered and came to participate with your students, making this event so memorable for our kids!
