KEEP Program

Parents, the following letter will be sent home TODAY with your students.  In order for your child to participate, I need the forms signed and returned no later than Thursday, January 30, 2014.  Thank you!

Dear Parents,

The Russell Country Child Advocacy Center will be presenting their KEEP program (Kids Engaged in Education Prevention) in conjunction with the THINK FIRST & STAY SAFE SAFE curriculum.  This acclaimed personal safety program, which you may have seen profiled on such programs such as OPRAH, CNN, MSNBC, NBC TODAY, and CBS NEWS, is currently taught in over 5,000 school systems nationwide.

The THINK FIRST & STAY SAFE program teaches students to identify and outsmart the lures that are consistently used in predatory crimes against children, both offline and online.  Youngsters learn essential personal safety skills to improve self-reliance and raise self-esteem, all while being consistently reassured that most people are kind, safe and committed to their well-being.

This program will be presented by a professional counselor, trained in the area of child abuse and neglect, with the Russell County Child Advocacy Center.  We would like to invite you as a parent(s) or guardian to attend the presentation in order to help further educate your child(ren).  Please contact the school counselor for your child(ren)'s specific presentation time scheduled.  If you have specific questions regarding the presentation information, please contact the Russell County Child Advocacy Center at 334-297-4962.

Please sign the letter and let us know if you want your child to be included in this safety, education, prevention program.

Stone Soup

Last week we read The Real Story of Stone Soup and Stone Soup in our study of folktales.  In keeping with the spirit of the stories' themes of community and sharing, students brought in ingredients to make our own version of Stone Soup.

I think it was safe to say it was enjoyed by all!

Barn Hill animal preserve

Today we received a special treat when the Barn Hill Preserve came out to show us several wild animals.  The kids loved it!  We learned some new facts about animals we were already familiar with, as well as learning about some new animals we had never seen before.  We saw things like porcupines, tortoises, baby kangaroos, burmese pythons, and more!
